HPHT Diamonds
HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature) growth recreates the extreme pressure and heat found deep in the earth, where diamond forms naturally — a small seed crystal is placed under intense pressure and temperature until carbon crystallizes around it into a diamond. It’s a different mechanism from CVD’s layer-by-layer vapor growth, but the result is the same: a real diamond, identical in structure and hardness to a mined stone, graded on the same 4Cs scale.
OCS Diamond stocks both CVD and HPHT from our Surat facility, giving buyers a genuine choice based on their specific carat and clarity target rather than being limited to one growth method. As with every stone we sell, HPHT stock passes through our in-house gemology team’s internal review before listing, on top of independent IGI certification – since 2018, this is the same standard we’ve applied for every retailer and manufacturer across our 50+ client base in India, the USA, the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.
Current HPHT inventory spans 1mm to 10 carats and above, across the full white color and clarity range up to VS2 (occasionally SI1), refreshed every 2 days alongside the rest of our livestock.

What Determines HPHT Diamond Pricing
HPHT pricing follows the same core 4Cs logic as CVD — clarity and color move price faster than carat weight alone — but a few HPHT-specific factors are worth knowing. Because HPHT is also widely used industry-wide as a post-growth treatment method, buyers sometimes assume all HPHT-labeled stock has been treated rather than primary-grown — this isn’t the case with our inventory, and every certificate clearly states growth method. Larger, higher-clarity HPHT stones can carry a premium over comparable CVD stones in certain size ranges, since achieving consistent high clarity at scale is a different technical challenge for each method.
As with CVD, tell our team your target carat and clarity rather than searching by growth method alone — we’ll point you to whichever stone in current stock actually fits your price point and application best.
Where HPHT Diamonds Are Most Commonly Used
HPHT stones in the 0.50ct-2ct range with strong clarity grades are frequently chosen for solitaire and three-stone bridal settings where a buyer wants maximum brilliance at a specific carat target. Because HPHT growth can be faster than CVD for certain specifications, it’s also a practical choice for manufacturers working against a tighter production timeline, where availability of the exact spec matters as much as growth method.
CVD vs HPHT — Which Should You Stock?

both are genuine diamonds, and the right choice usually depends on your specific carat and clarity target rather than one method being categorically better. CVD tends to offer more consistent control for matching stones across a collection; HPHT is often the faster growth method and is also used industry-wide as a post-growth treatment to improve color and clarity in CVD stones. If you’re not sure which fits your order, tell our team your target specs and we’ll recommend from current stock rather than you having to guess.
Frequently Asked Questions
HPHT recreates the pressure and heat found deep in the earth — around 5-6 GPa and 1,300-1,600°C — applied to a diamond seed until carbon crystallizes onto it, typically over days to weeks. CVD instead builds the stone up in a vacuum chamber using carbon-rich gas, layer by layer, over several weeks. Both produce a real diamond with identical structure and hardness.
Not categorically — both methods produce a full range of carat sizes. Availability of a specific carat and clarity combination in current stock is a better guide than growth method alone; ask our team for a recommendation based on your target.
Yes — every HPHT stone we sell carries the same IGI certification standard as our CVD stock, with growth method clearly stated on the certificate.
Our standard minimum order is 5 carats. First-time buyers can request a smaller sample order before committing to bulk.
