Fancy Pink Lab Grown Diamonds
Pink is scientifically unusual among fancy colors — unlike blue or yellow, which get their color from trace elements (boron and nitrogen respectively) present during growth, pink color comes from a structural distortion within the crystal lattice. In natural pink diamonds, this happens rarely, deep in the earth, under specific pressure conditions. In lab-grown production, that same lattice distortion is achieved through a post-growth process — irradiation followed by annealing (controlled heat treatment) — applied after the stone is grown via CVD or HPHT.
This is worth being direct about, because it’s often misunderstood: treatment does not mean less real, and it doesn’t mean the color can wear off. The irradiation-annealing process permanently rearranges atoms within the crystal structure itself — it’s not a surface coating that can scratch, fade, or peel. Once complete, the color is as permanent as the diamond itself, stable under normal wear, cleaning, and light exposure. This is standard, accepted, and fully disclosed practice across the lab-grown diamond industry — every fancy pink stone we sell states its treatment status clearly on its IGI certificate.
OCS Diamond has supplied fancy pink stock since 2018 from our Surat facility, as GJEPC and Surat Diamond Bourse members, across the full intensity range — Light Pink through Vivid and Intense Pink — to retailers and manufacturers across India, USA, UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.

“Every stone is internally reviewed by our in-house gemology team before it is listed — not just certified and forgotten. For buyers prioritizing resale confidence, we recommend VS2 clarity or higher, while every stone carries an IGI certificate documenting its 4Cs and treatment status.”
How Pink Color Is Created
Pink lab-grown diamonds start as CVD or HPHT-grown stones, most commonly with a brownish tint from the growth process itself. That brown color is removed and pink is introduced through irradiation — bombarding the crystal with high-energy particles to create atomic-level vacancies — followed by annealing, a controlled heating process that rearranges those vacancies into the specific structure that produces pink. The same underlying science occurs naturally in the rare “as-grown” pink diamonds found in the earth; lab treatment achieves the identical structural result under controlled conditions.
Both CVD and HPHT can serve as the base growth method before treatment. Every pink stone in our inventory is IGI certified with treatment status clearly stated — there’s no ambiguity about what you’re buying.
What Determines Fancy Blue Pricing
Intensity grade drives pink pricing more than any other single factor — the jump from Pink to Vivid or Intense Pink often affects price more than a full carat of size. Secondary hue matters too: pure pink without brownish or purplish undertones commands the strongest premium, which is part of why we list Reddish and Brownish Pink as separate categories under Other Fancy Colors rather than folding them into standard pink grading. Since color here comes from treatment rather than growth conditions, consistency across a batch is generally more achievable than in blue — good news for retailers building a matched collection.
Where Fancy Pink Diamonds Are Most Commonly Used
Pink is the dominant fancy color choice for engagement and bridal jewelry by a wide margin — solitaire and three-stone settings are the most common application, typically in rose or white gold. Smaller pink melee also sees real demand as accent stones surrounding a white or larger pink center stone, giving retailers a way to use pink across multiple price points within the same collection.
Why Fancy Pink Diamonds Command Premium Value
Pink remains the most commercially requested fancy color in bridal and engagement jewelry, and treatment-based production is what makes consistent, well-saturated pink achievable at meaningful volume — “as-grown” pink without any treatment is exceptionally rare even in lab conditions. Vivid and Intense grades carry the steepest premium within the category; Light Pink offers a more accessible entry point for volume-focused retail lines.
Frequently Asked Questions
Permanent. The color comes from a structural change within the crystal lattice itself, created through irradiation and annealing – not a surface coating. It won’t fade, scratch off, or change with normal wear, cleaning, or light exposure.
Fully disclosed, and it’s standard, accepted practice across the lab-grown diamond industry — every pink stone’s treatment status is stated clearly on its IGI certificate. A seller who doesn’t disclose this is the actual red flag, not the treatment itself.
Intensity, not carat weight, is the primary driver — Vivid and Intense grades show deeper saturation and carry a meaningful premium over Light Pink at the same carat weight.
Yes – those are listed under Other Fancy Colors as distinct hues rather than pink intensity variants.
Our standard minimum order is 5 carats. First-time buyers can request a smaller sample order before committing to bulk.
